CLAY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Tuesday afternoon Clay County Sheriffs Deputies declined to make a comment on a murder investigation that started Labor Day afternoon.

In a post on their Facebook page, however, deputies say Terry Wagers is in jail on one murder charge after police say he shot Johnny Lynn Curry.

According to the arrest citation WYMT obtained, Wagers called police shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon Monday, saying he shot someone. He then turned himself into Clay County 911 dispatch, along with the gun used in the shooting.

At the site of the shooting near the intersection of Kentucky 149 and U.S. 421 South, family members of Curry gathered.

“We’re devastated, we’re just trying to get through it with the help of my family, but it’s just so hard,” said Jadelynn Curry, Johnny Curry’s daughter.

Jadelynn is the mother of a little girl, the grandchild of Johnny Curry, and says her daughter will now grow up without a grandfather.

“He loved his family. He was striving to get a better relationship for his family, he was just truly an awesome person, he was working so hard on his self(sic), to better his self(sic),” said Curry.

Jadelynn talked for more than three minutes, just steps away from where her father was shot.

She admits her father’s past is rocky, but says he was working, in the time leading up to his death, to right any wrongs he may have had.

“He was a very good person, he loved everybody, he would take the shirt off his back for someone,” added Curry.

Fighting back tears, she talked about how she wishes the man accused of killing her father, could understand the pain he has caused.

“I don’t even have the words, and I know you’re not supposed to hate anybody but, dislike is a strong word,” added Curry’s daughter.

Thinking back to 24-hours earlier when she got the call from her father’s girlfriend, the pain of that moment in time is still raw.

“I was terrified, I was so worried about my daddy. The moment I heard those words, ‘it’s not looking good’ my heart dropped, it was horrifying,” she added.

WYMT reached out to Wagers for an interview but he declined.
